(原标题:Professor Ye Lin: Sports can help build more diversified industrial linkages between GBA and ASEAN)
On October 23, the 2025 ASEAN Youth View on National Games Forum and and RisingZ China-Vietnam Youth Exchange Event was held at the Zhujiang-InBev International Beer Museum.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of China-Vietnam diplomatic relations, and China's 15th National Games will be jointly hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao in November. In 2024, the total trade volume between China and ASEAN reached 6.99 trillion yuan. Guangdong's trade with ASEAN amounted to 1.5 trillion yuan, marking an 8% increase year on year and accounting for approximately one-fifth of China's total trade with the bloc.
This event served as a catalyst for regional exchange, and built anticipation for China's 15th National Games, further strengthening the shared commitment between China and ASEAN to deepen youth cultural exchanges.
Ye Lin, Professor at the School of Government of Sun Yat-sen University and the Director of Center of Guangzhou International Urban Innovation Research, said in an interview with SFC that "The Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area and ASEAN share a long-standing historical bond. Sports can serve as a bridge to promote cultural exchange. For example, traditional Lingnan sports and activities, such as dragon dancing and lion dancing, already have deep cultural roots in ASEAN countries. Through sports events, activities, and cultural ties, we can bring youth together and build more diversified industrial linkages between the two regions."
